Mexia Seniors and Parents, Administration received requirements from the Governor's office yesterday and without any changes in our county's public health requirements, I am happy to announce that as of today, May 6, 2020, Mexia High School will be able to have their graduation on May 22 at Black Cat Field. With the state's requirements our Class of 2020 High School Graduation will look very different than in previous years. More details will be coming soon from the High School as the Governor's requirements for social distancing are applied to our event. Thank you for your patience as we work to make this graduation as memorable and safe as possible for all of our families.

Athletic Equipment Check-In Date, Time, and Procedures: High School Athletes: Tuesday May 5th, 9:00-12:00 or 1:00-4:00 Boys/Girls Soccer, Boys/Girls Golf, Baseball, Track, and Powerlifting will drop their items off at the Field house. Please park in any of the parking spots in front of the field house and wait for a coach to invite you out of your vehicle to proceed with the equipment return process. Athletes will be allowed to enter the locker room only to gather any personal belongings that might still be housed in that area. After completing this process, a coach will escort you back to your vehicle. We ask that you please immediately depart the premises. Softball and Girls Track will drop their items off at the High School gym. Please park in the Junior High parking lot and wait for a coach to invite you out of your vehicle to proceed with the equipment return process. Athletes will be allowed to enter the locker room only to gather any personal belongings that might still be housed in that area. After completing this process, a coach will escort you back to your vehicle. We ask that you please immediately depart the premises. All Tennis athletes will return their equipment to Coach Weers. She will give you that information. Junior High Athletes: Thursday May 7th, 9:00-12:00 or 1:00-4:00 Female Athletes can pick up their personal belongings at the front of the school using the morning student drop off route. At no time will it be necessary for anyone to exit their vehicle. Coaches will have each athlete's personal items bagged up. As you and your athlete drive through the coaches will give them their belongings and you will depart the premises. On the afternoon of Sunday, March 22, 2020, District Admin was notified that a sponsor on the MHS band trip tested positive for COVID-19. The sponsor does not live locally and returned to his home outside Limestone County immediately after the trip. Mexia ISD is excited to welcome Triston Abron as the new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach for the Mexia Blackcats. Coach Abron joins Mexia from Paul Pewitt where his team was the 3A, Division II State Semi-Finalists. He was named Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Coach of the Year for 2019. Coach Abron brings a passion for excellence and we are excited about the future of Mexia ISD Athletics.
Mexia FFA has a rich tradition of succeeding at all levels. Over the past 4 years some of the notable awards are: Leadership Development Events has had 6 teams advance to area contest; Career Development Events has had 7 teams advance to the state contest; Mexia FFA students have participated at the state level in the talent and Spanish speaking creed contest. Also 14 students qualify for the Lonestar degree which is the highest award in the state. This is impressive because annually only about 1500 students receive this award.
Blackcat Family This morning Mexia PD, with the assistance of the FBI and Texas DPS, identified a suspect in today's school threat. This crime will not be tolerated by our community and MISD will prosecute all criminal actions to the fullest extent of the law.

Today is National Signing Day. Several student athletes will be signing letters of intent with their college or university. This event will take place in the MHS Auditorium at 11:30 today. This is a special moment for these athletes and we want to celebrate with them.

Hello Mexia Blackcat Families Today, January 30th at approximately 1:10 p.m., the district received a threat against the high school. After preliminary investigations, the Mexia Police Department reinforced a soft (perimeter) lockdown with the assistance of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Student safety continues to be our #1 priority. Tomorrow, Friday, January 31st, all schools will be open with increased presence from local and state law enforcement.
