What is School Counseling?

School counselors offer services designed to increase student wellness, improve academic performance, and increase participation in postsecondary education. These goals are met through a comprehensive counseling program that includes four components: guidance curriculum, individual student planning, responsive services, and systems support. Additionally, school counselors are instrumental in providing staff and students resources for an effective social and emotional learning program. If you feel your child would benefit from school counseling services, please contact Carrie Andrews at (254) 562-4025.

What is Social and Emotional Learning?

Social and Emotional Learning is the process by which we gain important skills needed in order to be successful in school, work, and life. These skills are categorized in to five basic components: Social Awareness, Self-Management, Self-Awareness, Responsible Decision Making, and Relationship Skills.

A Social and Emotional Learning Counselor can assist students in obtaining these important life skills by providing teachers with daily SEL lessons to use in the classroom, conducting whole group guidance lessons focused on the five components of SEL, and providing small group sessions that target needed skills.
