RETURN TO LEARN PLAN
The R.Q. Sims Campus Site Based Committee, along with input from various teachers and staff worked together in creating processes and procedures so that we provide as much detail as possible for a safe start to the new school year. As we are in uncharted territory, we will be revising these processes often and make the necessary changes as needed. Faculty and staff will model appropriate practices at the start of school to ensure safe practices are established for all. Below are the procedures for our day to day operations:
ALL staff and students will have temperature checked upon arrival each day. School doors will be open starting at 7:00am, location of arrival for bus riders will be the cafeteria door, and canopy riders at the canopy door on the left side of the building. Once their temperature is screened, the student will report to their homeroom class. We will have the students wait outside their rooms if they arrive before 7:15 maintaining 6 ft distance, and participate in Math and Movement led by ACE. At 7:15 the students will go inside their rooms and we will have educational activities for them to do provided by ACE. Breakfast will be served at 7:45 in the classroom.
The CDC considers a person to have a fever when he or she has measured temperature of 100.4°F (38°C). Anyone whose temperature reads this or above will be sent home. Parents will be contacted immediately to schedule pick-up.
Students will be dismissed from their classrooms as necessary. There will be staff members stationed in the hallways to enforce distancing.
If your child rides canopy, you will pick them up in the canopy line on the left side of the building. When you get in line we will call your student and staff will be in the hallways to ensure social distancing. We will only call 4 students at a time in order to minimize close contact. Please be patient as we adjust to this new process, it will take the kiddos some time to walk from their rooms out the doors. We will get them to you as quickly as we can, but safety is our main priority.
The students on the first two busses will be called down to the cafeteria first, and asked to sit in assigned seats, social distancing enforced. And as we load a bus, we will call another down to wait.
We are hopeful that we will have a solution to the cafeteria quickly, as of right now, we will not be able to have lunch in the cafeteria. The students' lunches will be delivered to their rooms, and they will eat there.
IF at any time we reopen the cafeteria, we will contact you and let you know. If we reopen it, lunches will run 10:45-11:15 ( 3rd Grade), 11:30-12:00 ( 4th Grade), 12:15-12:45 ( 5th Grade).
In order to keep all students safe, no parents will be allowed to drop off food for their kiddos or eat in the cafeteria or classroom with their students. Also, no students may bring food that needs to be heated, we will not have a way to heat food inside the classrooms.
Students who are enrolled in at home learning will still have the opportunity to come pick up a lunch Monday-Friday from 10:30-11:30 at the McBay Canopy. They will need to put in their request by 9:30am using the link https://mexiaisd.nutrislice.com/
Sanitation methods -We will use therecommended CDC protocols for cleaning areas and methods will be followed by all staff members. The following link contains CDC protocols, which we will be following by all to the best of our ability:
Cleaning/Sanitation will be completed after each seating. Students and staff will have rotations to allow for social distancing across the area. Students will not be seated directly across or beside another student. Spacing will be marked on tables to identify areas for seating. Students rotate through the line by staff directives so that minimal numbers are in proximity of each other. Others will wait at tables to be called. Spacing will be marked on the floor to identify distancing.
PE students will have structured class outside whenever possible, when not possible, they will social distance in the gym and do movement exercises.

All desks and chairs will be wiped down, and rooms sprayed in between different classroom groups.
Student paths will be marked to provide appropriate spacing as well as directional
indication for students to follow.
Staff will work with students on safety measures during restroom breaks. Minimal number in restroom at a time and supervised handwashing after use. Staff will have access to spray after class use. Maintenance staff will have scheduled cleaning throughout the day so that it is cleaned multiple times throughout the day.
Water fountains are currently closed. Students will be provided with a reusable water bottle, labeled with their name for use during the school day.

Book location markers will be available for student use. The markers will be sanitized appropriately and placed into two containers: "USED" and "READY TO USE." Teachers will train students on how to use this system.
Books that are returned will be kept on a cart. Books will be sanitized and then kept out of rotation for 2 days before being placed back on the shelf for student use. These will be labeled so staff knows when to reshelf books.
Sanitation methods -We will use therecommended CDC protocols for cleaning areas and methods will be followed by staff members.
We will be issuing each student their own Chromebook in order to minimize the number of people using one device. The Chromebooks will stay at school unless we have a reason to move to at home learning. Student computer time will be scheduled so that students are appropriately spaced throughout the room. Students will be able to use laptops (Chromebooks) at various times and the same practices will be used for these tools as well. Chromebooks will be sanitized daily.
Students will adhere to social distancing on the bus. Therefore, there will be one student per seat. Buses will be run without air conditioning in order to maximize air flow. Buses will be cleaned and sanitized at the end of each day by staff.
Staff utilizing district vehicles will adhere to CDC protocols and vehicles will be sanitized upon return by staff.
Students 10 and under are not required at this time to wear masks in the school setting. As a campus, however, we will support parents' requests to encourage students sent to school with a mask to keep in on when possible. All other staff members will wear a mask or face shield when on campus.
CAMPUS WAITING ROOM
If a student or staff member is experiencing any of the COVID-19 symptoms, they will be placed in a designated room away from the rest of the school population until their parent/guardian can pick them up. Students in this room will be supervised by a staff member at all times to ensure their safety and well-being.
DESIGNATED STAFF ONLY AREAS
The Staff Break Room will have limited seating to ensure social distancing. Use of shared coffee makers/utensils/etc will not be permitted. Copiers are to be wiped down with supplied disinfectant wipes before and after to each use. Shared food items such as birthday cakes, cookies, and donuts will not be permitted at this time.
We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. In the midst of all this change, one thing that has not changed is our love for you and your student. No matter what school models we are able to move forward with, be assured that we have an excellent staff fully committed to delivering a quality education in the safest environment.
