Mexia ISD
Blackcat Families,
It appears we can open tomorrow for in-person learning. We have water at the school for flushing and hand washing, but as with the rest of the area we do not have drinkable water. We do have plenty of bottled water on site and also invite your students to bring their own water if it is available.
Knowing that many of our families are just getting water back on or are still recovering from damages experienced from the storm, we are going to open but excuse any absences for the rest of the week for any families still in distress. In addition if you have concerns regarding sending your student in person the rest of the week, please feel free to also keep your student at home. We understand.
We are partners in your child's education and want to accommodate your family the best we can during this time by opening but yet excusing student absence's for families still in need or concerned about the current situation.
Please contact your school office to let us know your situation and how we can help.
Stay Blackcat Strong. We are almost to the end.

Another tough decision is being made to cancel school tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb 24 due to ongoing water pressure issues. We are working closely with the city and hope to resume classes on Thursday.

Blackcat Nation,
It has been a difficult 10 days for all of us. Closing school is possibly the most difficult decision for a Superintendent knowing the stress it puts on families and our community. However, I need to ask for another closure day as the community continues to heal from the recent events.
Everyday a student is not in school is a tragedy and we have had too many of these days in the last year, however, for students to learn and teachers to teach they must have their basic needs met and we are close but aren't quite there as a community.
We will be serving lunch at the Sims Intermediate drive through line starting at 11am Tuesday until 1pm. We will have water and free meals for all children. Please come by if you can make it.
Stay strong, stay safe, and I look forward to getting our students back to school as soon as safely possible.
